Welcome to Year 2's class page. In Year 2, the teacher is Mrs Hallett and the teaching assistant who helps with our learning is Mrs Tuohy. Mrs May and Mrs Tuohy also cover Mrs Hallett's planning time on a Thursday afternoon.
Our PE days are on Monday and Friday, but please ensure your child has their kit in school every day as PE days can be changed due to clashes with other teaching and learning events in school.
The children's home learning will always to be read their book.
The children will also get 10 words at a time to learn as part of their spelling programme. The children will be expected to practise their spellings and handwriting at home by writing 10 sentences which includes each of the spelling words in their homework book. Please ensure the children are applying their spellings accurately, including the correct punctuation (capital letters and full stops) and using joined handwriting. Homework will be due in on a Thursday and given out on a Friday.
Children will also be expected to practice their times tables (2s, 5s, 10s) and develop their recall of the related division facts once this knowledge is secure.
Below is the key information parents need to know for Year 2. If there are any questions please come and see me before or after school.
Phonics and Spellings
By Year 2 children should be confident with their phonics up to phase 5. Please support and encourage your child to learn their phonic sounds and their Year 2 spellings. Below is a list of all the Year 1 & 2 spellings they will need to know by the end of the year and the phase 4 and 5 phonic sounds. There is also a range of strategies to support the learning of these.
