Year 2 Information
Miss S Wilson
Year 2 Teacher
Mrs A Statton
Welcome to Year 2's class page. In Year 2, the teacher is Miss Wilson; Mrs Hallett teaches for half a day on Tuesday for PPA cover. The Teaching Assistant that helps with our learning is Mrs Statton.
Our PE day is on Wednesday and Friday, but please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school every day.
The children's home learning will always to be read their book. The children will also get 10 words at a time to learn as part of their spelling programme. The children will be expected to practise their spellings and handwriting at home by writing 10 sentences which includes each of the spelling words in their homework book. Please ensure the children are applying their spellings accurately, including the correct punctuation (capital letters and full stops) and using joined handwriting. Homework will be due in on a Thursday and given out on a Friday.
Children will also be expected to practice their times tables (2s, 5s, 10s and know the related division facts).
This year, on Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Hallett will take the class for forest school style sessions to cover my PPA. Your child will need a change of clothes (old ones that can get muddy) and shoes/boots in a named bag. They will also need a waterproof coat or jacket and if they have waterproof trousers that would be great too. We will be outside whatever the weather! It will be messy.
Below is the key information parents need to know for Year 2. If there are any questions please come and see me before or after school.
Phonics and Spellings
By Year 2 children should be confident with their phonics up to phase 5. Please support and encourage your child to learn their phonic sounds and their Year 2 spellings. Below is a list of all the Year 1 & 2 spellings they will need to know by the end of the year and the phase 4 and 5 phonic sounds. There is also a range of strategies to support the learning of these.
