Take a look at what we have being doing during the Autumn Term :)
Christmas Dinner & Jumper Day - Thursday 8th December 2022
Today, the children wore their Christmas jumpers for their last Christmas Dinner at primary school. Those who had it, enjoyed their turkey dinner and everyone enjoyed the chocolate fudge cake for pudding!
Scribblebots - Monday 5th December 2022
This afternoon, the children applied their learning from our Science topic of 'electricity' to create a Scribblebot. Using a cup, some pens, a motor and a cork, the children were able to create a device which will draw for them - some perfect circles.
Completed Art - 2D Drawings to 3D Sculptures - 21st October 2022
For our art learning this half-term, we explored how to take 2D drawings and make them into 3D sculptures. We took inspirations for the artist Lubaina Himid and created sculptures of objects associated with World War II. The final sculptures look great as I am sure you'll agree.
Well done, Year 6, you have tried new skills and created great pieces of art.
Play Leader Training - Monday 26th September 2022
'With great power comes great responsibility.'
This afternoon, Year 6 were joined by Mr Upston again who gave them some Play Leader training. The aim is for Year 6 pupils to support the play of younger children at our school during lunch times. The children explored a variety of games and focused on the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) teaching tool to support them in challenging and support their younger peers.
Mr Upston also discussed with Year 6 about being role models for the younger children.
First Aid Training - Friday 23rd September 2022
This afternoon, Year 6 were joined by Mr Upston, our PE specialist, who taught them some first aid skills. Year 6 completed the Heart Start First Aid Course. During their session, they learnt what do if someone is injured including how to put them in the recovery position. They learnt how to do CPR and when this would be necessary. Additionally, they acquired skills of what to do if someone is choking and if someone has a serious cut.
Thank you to Mr Upston for coming in to teacher Year 6 these vital life skills.
Art - 2D Drawings to 3D Sculptures
For our art learning this half-term, we are exploring how to take 2D drawings and make them into 3D sculptures. Taking inspirations for the artist Lubaina Himid. We began by exploring her work and seeing the tools and methods she uses to create her sculptures. Following on from this, we took drawings (images associated from World War II) and used the grid method to help us to transfer our drawings.
30th September 2022
This week in art, we used what we had done last lesson to 'scale up' our drawings. It was good fun moving all the tables and being able to work on the floor with our friends.
PE - Cricket
This half-term, we have been lucky to be joined by Damien from 'Chance to Shine' Cricket, a charitable organisation in the UK which encourages competitive cricket in state schools. Each week, he has been supporting us to learn how to play cricket alongside our friends.
