History
Why?
We want our pupils at St Sidwell's to learn History, so that:
- They know and understand the history of these islands as a coherent, chronological narrative
- They know and understand significant aspects of the history of the wider world
- They gain and use a historically grounded understanding of abstract terms such as 'empire' 'civilisation' 'technology' and 'settlement'
- They understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, similarity and difference, cause and consequence and significance
- They use these concepts to make connections and create their own structured accounts
- They understand the methods of historical enquiry
- They gain a historical perspective
What?
We teach through a series of History enquiries. This document shows the focus of these enquiries and outlines the History that they contain.
In the Autumn Term 2022, these are:
- Year 1 - How do we know so much about what happened in the Great Fire of London?
- Year 2 - Why was Charles the pigeon sent to prison? (Animals in World War I)
- Year 3 - How did the lives of ancient Britons change during the Stone Age?
- Year 4 - Who were the Anglo-Saxons and how do we know what was important to them?
- Year 5 - What was life like in Baghdad during the Golden Age of Islam?
- Year 6 - Why was winning the Battle of Britain in 1914 so important?
Who?
