Home Learning in Reception
Phonics at home
Lots of free Read Write Inc. Phonics resources to help your child continue learning, including eBooks, practice sheets, slideshows, videos, and parent films.
- We particularly like the Speedy Green Word Slideshows as they will help build your child’s reading fluency. The aim is for your child to read the Speedy Green Words without sounding them out loud.
- Speedy Green Words are high frequency words found in lots of stories. These words are always taught first by sound-blending. Children then practise reading the words at speed so they can read the stories without sounding out each word. Children’s effort can then go into comprehending the story.
Phonics games
Here are some websites with some fun phonics games:
- Phonics Play (https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources) - this has lots of free resources and games.
- Teach Your Monster To Read (https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/)
- Top Marks (https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/letters-and-sounds) - this also has a selection of phonics games.
