Phonics at home

Lots of free Read Write Inc. Phonics resources to help your child continue learning, including eBooks, practice sheets, slideshows, videos, and parent films. 

• We particularly like the Speedy Green Word Slideshows as they will help build your child’s reading fluency. The aim is for your child to read the Speedy Green Words without sounding them out loud. 
• Speedy Green Words are high frequency words found in lots of stories. These words are always taught first by sound-blending. Children then practise reading the words at speed so they can read the stories without sounding out each word. Children’s effort can then go into comprehending the story.

Letter formation

At school, we are teaching pre-cursive handwriting - with whooshes and flicks. Each letter is taught with a rhyme e.g. a is 'whoosh, around the apple and down the leaf'. The document below shows the correct formation for each letter, as well as the rhyme that relates to it. 

Funky Fingers

Below is a PDF containing ideas for 'Funky fingers' activities, to build up children's fine motor skills and get them ready to write.

A whole library at home! There are also links to phonics and maths games for you to play. 

Numberblocks 

At school, Reception really enjoy watching the Numberblocks episodes. They are all available on BBC iPlayer and linked to different numbers/areas of learning. 

Top Marks Maths#

Top Marks has lots of free maths games for all ages, covering everything from counting and ordering numbers to shapes and patterns.

Keeping Active

You can find some 'Just Dance' and 'Koo Koo Kanga Roo' videos to dance along to on YouTube just like we do in school to keep active. 

The GoNoodle site also has a wide range of physical activities to join in with when you are stuck indoors.
