Religious Education and Collective Worship

Why?

We want our pupils at St Sidwell's to learn Religious Education, so that:

• They can explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live
• They can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief
• They can reflect on their own ideas and ways of living

What?

At St Sidwell's C of E School we follow the 'Understanding Christianity' programme of work. Children attend collective worship each day and have time to develop their spirituality and reflection through both planned and spontaneous opportunities.

'I like worship because I like the songs and I like acting out' (Year 1 child)

'I like praying because it's quiet, we can think about things that are happening to us and how to help others' (Year 2 child)

'You learn ways to help other people' (Year 4 child)

'It's fun and they teach you different ways you can be with Jesus' (Year 6 child)

Religious Education is an academic subject. It is about academic learning and preparing young people for living in a contemporary society. Parents do have the right to with draw their child from RE lessons. If you want to discuss this right, then please contact the Headteacher.
