Autumn Term - Kintsugi Bowls
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with powdered gold. It treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
At St Sidwell's we have been making our own Kintsugi bowls, thinking about our experiences last term. We thought about what was good, what was not so good and what we would like to keep. We asked questions and considered some of words and feelings that we could use to describe how we felt during that time. We thought about what made us happy and looked at new skills that we had learnt.
Everyone has made their own paper mache bowl and has decorated it using their own drawings and writing. Gold pen has been used to show that our experiences are part of who we are and make us us. Our bowls are beautiful and represent who we are and our experiences.
