Year 2 Spring 1 2021

Happy New Year to all our families and welcome back to another term of exciting learning.
Our topic this term is called Mission Explore and will have a focus on Antarctic exploration. This will include animals, explorers and materials used in clothing for a different climate.
The knowledge organiser for the term notes some key vocabulary that will be used. Some parents have used translation tools to help their children understand what these words mean in order to help them make better progress in classwork. 
We continue to work in school to do our utmost to keep everyone covid safe so please remember that children should not bring backpacks or extra bags into school. A reading folder, lunchbox and a water bottle are fine. Sadly we cannot welcome in books and artefacts from home either because we would need to quarentine each one (as we do any reading books that go home from school).
We are starting the term with a maths focus on multiplication. This will use picture images in addition to the written form. The children will learn to understand what 2x3 'looks like' for example, 2 equal groups of 3 (***) (***).
In english my group will be refining their comprehension skills and learning about writing simple factual information about animals based on an information text about Penguins and the book 'Can a penguin ride a bike?'
