The Nativity will be on Tuesday 13th of December (morning) and Wednesday 14th December (afternoon). Further details will be sent home nearer the time.
In Holly Class Mrs Hallett is the teacher and the teaching assistant who helps with our learning is Mrs Tuohy. Miss Reed works as 1 to 1 support.
PE Day
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please can your child wear their PE kit to school and wear their school jumper over the top. EARRINGS are NOT to be worn on PE days. Only studs are permitted on other days. Thank you - this helps keep the children safe in PE sessions.
Home Learning
The children's home learning will always to be read their book.
Once the term is underway the children will also get 10 words at a time to learn as part of their spelling programme. The children will be expected to practise their spellings and handwriting at home via activities for example, using our online spelling support 'Spelling Shed', writing the words they do not know in rainbow colours, writing the words on paper and cutting them into individual letters and then putting them back in order or writing 10 sentences which include each of the spelling words. Please ensure the children are applying their spellings accurately, including the correct punctuation (capital letters and full stops) and using joined handwriting.
Children will also be expected to practice their times tables (2s, 5s, 10s) and develop their recall of the related division facts once this knowledge is secure. You can help them by encouraging them to take any opportunities to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Thank you for your support - we are all working together to help your child achieve the best possible outcomes in their education.
Key Information
Below is the key information parents need to know for Year 2.
The Yearly Jigsaw shows the curriculum we will cover in the year.
Phonics and Spellings
By Year 2 children should be confident with their phonics up to set 3.
Below is a summary of the phonic sounds that we have taught through the Read, Write Inc programme and which they need to know. Please support and encourage your child to learn their phonic sounds and their Year 2 spellings. Your child will have access to spelling shed games (see below) - there is no need to buy the app. There is also a list below of all the Year 1 & 2 spellings they will need to know by the end of the year. In addition there is a range of strategies to support the learning of these.
Reading Support and Advice for Parents
Please find below information and advice that can support you in helping your child with their reading and writing. These are useful documents which will allow you to support your child at home by continuing their learning from class.
Children working on Read Write Inc will have reading and comprehension homework set on the Oxford Owl site (see link below).
Information for parents of children on 'accelerated reader' can be found on the school website at:
about us/curriculum/accelerated reader and library
These documents explain, for example, how you can view your child's progress and find books for their ideal level of reading challenge.
We will be following the White Rose Maths scheme and using this both in class and for blended learning if any child is having to isolate. It includes videos to explain the learning and related maths problems to discuss with an adult. The children are already familiar with the scheme, having used it in Year 1. It may also be helpful to take a look at examples for the topics covered if you want to familiarise yourself with how we are teaching different elements of maths to your child.
