We're passionate about the environment at St Sidwell's CE Primary and Nursery School and are committed to doing all we can to educate young people about climate change and take positive steps towards becoming net zero carbon.
We’ve taken the Let’s Go Zero pledge, declaring our aim to become zero carbon by 2030. We’re joining schools across the UK in this national campaign to show the overwhelming support for zero carbon schools, and inviting government and local councils to work with us to reach this goal.
We know that schools can be the trailblazers for their community, responding to young people’s calls for action. In fact, they can inspire whole communities to tackle the climate crisis. In the coming pivotal ‘climate decade,’ we will be part of Let’s Go Zero’s national network of schools and sustainability, sharing information about how to reach zero carbon, and working with local councils and government to make it happen.
By joining the Let’s Go Zero campaign we’re taking a positive step on a local level to help combat the climate issues we all face globally. It sends a strong message to our whole school and community that together we can safeguard our planet for future generations.
Year 6 Eco- Committee
Our school eco committee is made up of a group of climate conscious year 6 pupils who are dedicated to making St. Sidwell’s a more climate friendly environment by raising awareness and kick starting initiatives. They meet each week on a Wednesday lunchtime, developing their ideas and formulating their plans for the year ahead. Recently, they have participated in the Schools Across the Ocean campaign, part of the University of Exeter’s Green Futures initiative, which saw their work showcased on the world’s stage at the COP 29 conference, they have worked alongside world leading scientists, whose expertise include: mapping climate change weather patterns, protecting microscopic but essential microorganisms in the ocean’s mud, and regenerating rainforest eco-systems. Their work has a day-to-day impact on the eco footprint of our school - from initiatives surrounding eco-surveying, recycling and food waste – as well as a wider impact in their awareness-raising contributions to whole school worship and whole school eco-focussed competitions.
